Europe is experiencing one of the most significant influxes of immigrants and refugees in its history due to the worldwide conflicts.
Societies are increasingly diverse in many respects, united under the same EU identity with common values and an immense cultural, religious and humanist heritage. However, some people have not been able to integrate in the society along the years, like the Roma people for example. In today’s Germany, Sinti and Roma are still a target of discrimination, and they face various barriers.

The adult education sector can respond to this challenge by offering effective educational opportunities. Being exposed to foreign languages and cultural differences when taking part in any kind of activity, may put off people, especially women who lack the courage to apply for learning measures, for fear they will be excluded.

In closer connection with our objectives, we support a vulnerable group, respective the roma women, to overcome important barriers they face and showcase the relevance of what they learn, respectively how new skills materialise, with the help of adult education, in a learning environment, where they will be able to continue promoting education and training for their peers. We offer different learning activities to our target group, a package of measures including meetings, focus groups and seminars also by exploiting digital technologies.

Our target group is represented by Sinti and Roma women, focusing on the North Rhine Westphalia region, generally speaking adult women with fewer opportunities, who for economic, social, cultural reasons, due to their migrant background, or due to educational difficulties or for any other reason, including a reason that could give rise to discrimination, face obstacles that prevent them from having equal access to the society where they live and the labour market. Roma women with fewer opportunities in life, are in a disadvantaged situation compared to their peers regarding participation to an active social life but also in education and training systems.
